Tell us a little more about yourself and what got you started painting?
At school I hated art lessons constantly being told what was good and what wasn’t, constantly being told what was wrong with what I had drawn or created but I enjoyed art but I decided to drop that class when I had the opportunity. Growing up in Birmingham you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing tags and bubble letters I started to recreate what I would see on buses and walls trying to stylise my name it gave me freedom that art classes didn’t it was completely against everything that I had been taught and this appealed to me I could really find my own style. For years I stopped painting and lost confidence and was nervous to go out and paint especially when there were so many great artists getting up. It was through writers like Tizer, Chips, Aero Arts, Solo One and Dreph that made me realise if your’e having fun painting that’s all that matters and just go out and do it.
Best place you have painted?
One place I really enjoyed painting was Capbreton (south-western France): blockhouse on the beach “plage de la Savane. You know I’m used to painting in some filthy places, so to be on the beach overlooking the Atlantic with the sun shining it made for a nice change.
Any big plans for this year?
No plans as of yet just seeing what each day brings, kind of hard to plan with everything that is happening right now.
Tell us your funniest moment while painting?
I haven’t had to many funny moments but a real stand out one was when I was painting around Trafalgar square in London. Charring cross police station was no more than 50 meters away from me. I had found a spot with walls about 8m long 2.5m high and it had become a place where homeless people had started sleeping and even a murder had taken place there. I thought I would go and paint something to cheer the homeless people up give them something fun and colourful to wake up to. I got there at 8:00 as i thought maybe that’s when the police would be changing shifts and I would have everyone walking past going to work so maybe they wouldn’t really notice what I was doing. I started painting opera singers on the wall as the police were walking/driving past and left me to it. Eventually 2 of them stopped and asked if I had permission, I told them straight up no, they asked me so what are we going to do, I said to them when shop opens I will speak with the owner and see how they want to proceed, they took my details and called me the next day to see what the owner had said unfortunately she wanted me to buff it but the Police told me not to and not to worry as they were meeting with the council later and they would get me to come back and do a proper commission.
Anyone you would like to collaborate with?
Who would I like to collaborate with? I’m down to collaborate with most people it’s all about meeting people and having fun but if I have to choose one person it would be Okudart his work is bold, big and fun and that’s what I want to be doing.
