Thousands Turn Out to See Tamworth Castle Light Up in Spectacular Projection Mapping Show

TAMWORTH, ENGLAND – December 2, 2025 – Tamworth’s festive season kicked off in spectacular style as thousands of people gathered to witness the inaugural ‘Light Up The Castle’ event on Friday, November 29th. The historic Tamworth Castle was transformed using cutting-edge projection mapping, showcasing a stunning Christmas showreel featuring performances from local performing arts groups and original artwork created by local schoolchildren. The event was a huge success, hosted collaboratively by local arts organisation New Urban Era (NUE) and Tamworth Arts and Events. The showreel, projected directly onto the castle facade, delighted the crowds and was the culmination of months of creative preparation. Complementing the main show, the event featured a vibrant line-up of roaming entertainment, made possible thanks to crucial funding from Arts Council England. Acts included the high-energy LED Drummers, the dazzling Cherry Fizz Hoops, and the exhilarating African Acrobatics Circus, all of which added to the magical atmosphere.

The founder of New Urban Era, Vic Brown ], commented: “We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the turn out for our ‘Light Up The Castle’ show at this year’s Tamworth Christmas Lights Switch-On. The show had been in the making for many months, and I must admit it was nerve-racking to watch to begin with, as projection mapping can be difficult to predict. However, once the show started, all the nerves faded away as the hard work from all involved truly paid off.
NUE is incredibly pleased to have had the opportunity to be a big part of the Lights Switch-On this year. We were thrilled to bring a fantastic line-up of additional acts to the event, including The LED Drummers, the spectacular African Acrobatics Circus, and the dazzling Cherry Fizz Hoops, all of which went down really well with the public. We also saw over 300 children take part in our workshops on the day, expertly delivered by Up Creative and South Staffordshire College. We truly couldn’t ask for a better result”
Moving forward, the team certainly deserves a good rest before we plan for 2026. We look forward to bringing back popular events like our ‘Art of Tamworth’ festival—we will be back bigger and better!” Looking Ahead NUE is now looking ahead to 2026, with plans to bring back popular events like the ‘Art of Tamworth’ festival, promising to be “bigger and better.”
